About the author

Hi, my name's Nathan and I'm a northern lad. I have a wide array of interests, same as anyone, and I'd like to share them with you in the hopes that something I've learned along the way teaches you something new or even inspires you to do the same.

Why? Two reasons.

Firstly, my grandmother. A wonderful, boundless source of love, joy and inspiration and during her career, a teacher. She taught me many things from a young age but one turn of phrase always resonated and stuck:

"A day when you've learned something is never a day wasted."

This statement has guided and assured in more ways than one over the years, but my main takeaway has been this - knowledge in and of itself is not the answer, rather, it is the act of learning, the willingness to be open to new ways of thinking that is paramount to a self-fulfilling life. Even hard lessons are lessons to be learned.

Secondly, and related, is a quote and excerpt written from one of my favourite authors, Kurt Vonnegut, in a letter he penned to a class of high school students from New York who had written to various authors across the world asking for their advice. In it, he advocates to these young students towards the act of artistic expression, any form of self-reflection and creation in order to experience what he terms as 'the act of becoming', because to have done so means 'learning a lot more about what's inside you, and to have made your soul grow.'

Or, to really nail this list of inspirational quotes home, Miley says it best:
"♫ Ain't about what's waiting on the other side, it's the climb ♫"

So these posts and pages are as much a place for sharing ideas as they are a reflection of my learnings over the years. Thanks for being here!
